Searching for the best pet-friendly hotels in Madrid?
You will probably know that I love traveling with Kiba the dachshund, and we have visited many countries together. Unfortunately, many of them do not welcome our pets as well as Spain.
Therefore, if you are searching for the best pet-friendly hotels in Madrid, congrats! unlike many cities in the world, there are many dog-friendly hotels in Madrid.
The capital of Spain is a fantastic city full of interesting places to visit, where you can enjoy a fantastic vacation with your dog.
Requirements to enter Spain with your pet
But before traveling with your pet, remember to check out the latest regulations of the destination country. In Spain, among others:
- Animals must always be accompanied by their owners.
- They must be duly identified (passport, microchip)
- Pets need to have a health certificate which should include a copy written in Spanish.
- Some specific dog breeds are required to wear a muzzle at all times.
- And dogs younger than 15 weeks old cannot enter Spain.
Where to stay in Madrid with pets
When booking a hotel, it is always advisable to let them know that you are traveling with your pet, indicating the breed and weight.
You can include this info in the “comments” section of your online booking or you can directly call the hotel, at the moment of the reservation or a few days before the stay. I always ask if there is any type of supplement. This way, I have never had problems or misunderstandings.
Madrid is home to many beautiful parks such as El Retiro or Madrid Rio where there are special zones for dogs with benches, agility areas, and drinking fountains. Also, you can let your dog off the lead at certain times depending on the season.
That is why, when searching for a pet-friendly hotel in Madrid, is interesting to search for places close to green areas.
Without further ado, these are my picks for the top dog-friendly hotels in Madrid:
Booking.comPetit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII (C. de Alfonso XII, 18)
The Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII is a chic, luxurious boutique hotel located next to El Retiro Park, the most popular green area in Madrid. It is one of the most charming places to escape the city’s bustle and the perfect place to walk your dog.
The location is unbeatable being also close to Puerta de Alcalá, the Prado and Reina Sofia Museums, and other noteworthy landmarks in Spain.
This stylish and exclusive hotel is housed in a historic mansion from the 19th century, and you will fall in love with its cutting-edge décor and cozy hotel rooms with views of El Retiro Park.
This, and the other Petit Palace accommodations in Madrid, are probably the best pet-friendly hotels in Madrid. This chain is famous for welcoming pets and offering specific services such as a pet bed, bowl, and food free of charge.
There is no extra charge for pets, you only have to let them know that you are traveling with your dog at the time of booking.
Furthermore, Petit Palace hotels allow a free flexible departure time on Sundays and Mondays until 3:00 p.m. (upon availability), breakfast is delicious, and there is free MIFI service (internet with free data throughout the city).
Among the best pet-friendly hotels in Madrid, Petit Palace Savoy Alfonso XII is the first option you should consider. There are some specific times when your dog will be able to enjoy running on its own in El Retiro Park. Off-leash hours are from 6:00 to 10:00 and from 20:00 (19:00 in Winter).
Besides, there is a great fenced area where you can always let your dog run loose. It is located close to La Rosaleda and the Fallen Angel Fountain.
Urban Hotel (Cra de S. Jerónimo, 34)
The Urban Hotel is located only a few minutes away from Puerta del Sol, the famous Art Triangle, and within walking distance of El Retiro Park. It is also close to the Gran Vía, one of the main avenues of Madrid, known for its wide array of shops and restaurants.
This avant-garde hotel has been designed to make your stay an unforgettable experience. You will love the impressive collection of ethnic and tribal art.
The hotel has a swimming pool on the terrace, which offers unique views of the capital of Spain and a tasty menu of tapas, snacks, and cocktails.
If you are traveling with your dog and searching for the top-rated pet-friendly hotels in Madrid, the Urban Hotel has the best deal for you to discover the city with your furry family members.
It is advisable to book the Stay & Dog package, which includes a luxury gift set so your four-legged friend can make the most of the trip, with a bed, and a selection of toys and treats by Trixie. In case you finally don´t book this package, an additional supplement will be charged.
It is important to consider that only small and medium-sized pets with a maximum weight of 15 kg (33 lb) are allowed, and only one pet per room.
Catalonia Atocha (C. de Atocha, 81)
As I commented on my post about the best hotels for families in Madrid, Catalonia Hotels & Resorts is one of my favorite hotel chains, offering excellent value for money. Therefore, Catalonia hotels are also some of the most popular pet-friendly hotels in Madrid.
The Catalonia Atocha Hotel is conveniently situated next to the Atocha Railway Station and Paseo del Prado, as well as the city’s major museums and tourist spots.
Built in a neo-classic style, the building dates from the beginning of the 20th century and its façade is now one of the most remarkable landmarks in this historic neighborhood.
In contrast to the exterior classical design, the hotel has an avant-garde, modern and cozy interior and as well as the latest in technology. Rooms are modern, clean, and well-furnished, with an excellent bathroom and shower.
There is a beautiful roof terrace with a heated seasonal jacuzzi and wonderful views of the city.
If you are booking this pet-friendly hotel in Madrid, consider that only one dog or cat under 20 kg (44 lb) per room is allowed. And you will be charged an additional supplement for your pet, don´t forget to check out the exact amount per night before the booking.
Principe Pio Hotel (Cta. de San Vicente, 14)
The Principe Pio Hotel is the ideal location for visiting the capital with your pet. It is in a prime location close to the most historic attractions in Madrid such as the Royal Palace, La Almudena Cathedral, Plaza España, and the Debod Temple.
But the main reason I am including a 3-star hotel as one of my favorite pet-friendly hotels in Madrid is that it is surrounded by the largest and most beautiful parks and gardens to walk your dog, such as Madrid Rio, Oeste Park, and Casa de Campo.
Dogs are very welcome in this hotel, there is no weight limit, but with a supplement. Moreover, there are several pet-friendly cafes in the surroundings, such as Café de la Rivière.
Hard-Rock Hotel Madrid (Rda. de Atocha, 17)
Hard Rock Hotel is one of the most fun hotels in Madrid. It is the perfect place to disconnect and live the full experience enjoying the swimming pool, gym, Fender guitar rental, or yoga classes in your room.
The guest rooms are spacious, clean, and modern, with a comfortable bed and various pillows to choose from. The bathrooms are contemporary with glass doors on the shower and toilet area.
You will also enjoy unique 360 views of Madrid, live music, and signature cocktails from the bar located on the 8th floor, one of the best rooftop bars in Madrid.
Hard Rock is a dog-friendly hotel in Madrid that accepts one pet per room of 11 kg (24 lb) or under (cats and dogs only) as a part of Hard Rock’s Unleashed program. Currently, there is a 50€ fee per pet per stay.
